The standard ESP installation consists of a discharge head attached to the tubing, a pump, an intake, a seal, a motor, a motor lead extension, cable to surface and a penetrator through the wellhead.
The majority of ESP installations in the world fit into this category. As could be seen in the equipment section, there are many things to consider with each component and the standard arrangement of these components is as per the diagram.
The attraction of this configuration is that a standard workover rig can be used, it allows the largest diameter ESP for a given casing size and is well known in the industry. but it also has some draw backs, which include: -
